Edwards and Biden are safe choices...Obama is not worried if he "upsets" some folks within his party...he is a new type of candidate and is trying to get beyond hyper-partisanship...Obama is also trying to build a large working majority in Congress -- and this will require very effectively reaching out to moderate Republicans and Independents (and they would not naturally embrace a very safe but liberal VP choice)...I really think Obama may push the envelope and choose the type of running mate that Gore or Kerry would never choose...It would not surprise me at all if Obama reaches across the aisle and selects a moderate Republican like Hagel as his running mate -- and Hagel is a war hero with tremendous credibility in the Foreign Policy arena... en.wikipedia.org
