They are trying to get all those new leases before the friendly Bushies leave office..... It's simply a matter of hoarding...scoff up all lease areas before someone else gets a chance..

and that's a problem - hoarding lands they don't intend to explore and pay fees - wow that's bad.

Fact not flippant - there are hundreds of years of oil in the shale deposits even at current consumption rates, but if we turn the fleet in the next 20 years to mostly alternative fuels then we can tap the shale (if needed) for things that require liquid fuels like aircraft.
