Treasury have been given the power to buy the two companies stock.

Holy crud!! When's the last time this authorization was given for the government to buy stock on the open market (officially.. not the PPT.. ;0)

I just hope this doesn't get extended to home builders or private mortgage banks, as was the case with the Japanese with their invention in private equity markets.

But this will certainly make the shorts in Freddie and Fannie VERY NERVOUS.
