Once we had the cold war with nukes now it is energy and control of energy resources - Russia is again the worst enemy of the Western Hemisphere - but this time the west is like the proverbial frog in hot water - boiling slowly to death -

Russian President Talks Energy in Baku

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visited Azerbaijan on July 3, reaching for control over supply routes to Europe for Caspian energy resources.

The visit was part of the Kremlin's efforts to strengthen its dominance over energy supplies from the Caspian and Central Asia region, which is believed to contain the world's third largest energy reserves.

The chairman of Russian state natural gas monopoly Gazprom, Alexei Miller, accompanied Medvedev to Baku Thursday to discuss prospective purchases of Azerbaijani gas. He said that Russian and Azerbaijani officials agreed to start talks pertaining to Gazprom's purchase of gas from Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan will become yet another country where Gazprom can buy gas," Miller said but he wouldn't elaborate on a price or a potential quantity of purchases.

Azerbaijani officials made no comment.
