OT:

I won't own any more dogs for that reason. I don't want to make that choice again.

Same here. I had to put my cat, Charlie, to sleep a few years ago because of feline leukemia. I kept him in the house under strict supervision; but when he ingeniously learned to escape despite my best efforts to confine him, he became "the cat that knew too much."

By getting outside, he was simply too much of a threat to the neighborhood cats. He had to be removed. I remember giving him his last meal and patting him on the head for the last time before my friend came to take him to the vet while I went to the office. I could not bear to take him myself. I was sad for days. So, I said to myself, "no more of this."
