BTW how do you feel about calling Asians "gooks"?

Do you know the origin of the word - what a shocker to learn that in the Korean language it basically means people/person.

Korean - Han-gook
American - Me-gook

One story claims it was picked up by GI's during the Korean war and became an insult in Vietnam.

So I'm sort of ambivalent to the word, somewhat like whitey - I see the word white and hangook all over the place - they have little meaning as an insult when shortened a bit or adding a "y". Much like Jap or Jew instead of Japanese or Jewish. It's the intent of how the word was used not so much the word itself.

PS; Most times it's spelled han-kook or han-kuk, but it's pronounced gook although it's not exactly a "g" or "k" sound.

As for your implication that McCain used the word do describe vietnamese - I'm perfectly fine with the term during the war - it's basic military doctrine to demonize the enemy a bit - makes it easier to deal with the fact your killing them. After the war it's either bitterness or racism - McCain has plenty to be bitter about when it comes to vietnamese treatment and their strict adherence to the Geneva Convention treaty regarding POW's - not at all like the Gitmo hotel guests.
