Episiotomy. Aieee. I never did figure out the merits of "tearing her a new one", to borrow a term. There are studies coming out of Sweden showing that even if women tear their perineum while giving birth, it heals faster than a deliberate cut (up to but not including third-degree tears, which begin to involve the colon. Time to get the digestive saxophone a new reed...)
The scary thing is that our med. group has an obstetric collective. (Resistance is futile.) So I don't see how we're gonna get to see the delivering physician and gain consensus on some of our strongly-held opinions re forceps, episiotomies, which drugs when etc.
