A Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. analyst said in a report there is a lot of offshore crude that can be produced relatively quickly. The problem: It is located off California, where politicians have built careers opposing new drilling.

Trust me, it is highly unlikely that CA will allow offshore drilling. There is a whole different mindset up and down the West Coast compared to the attitudes in the Gulf.....or even the East Coast. I understand that Crist of FLA has reversed his position re. offshore drilling. If Arnold did that in CA, there would be a lynch mob outside his office not more than two minutes later. CA's coast is sacred.
