Don't forget L'Enfant who designed Washington, D.C.

The main thing is to remember that number streets go North and South----and lettered-alphabet-streets that go East and West and intersect with the numbered streets.

When you've figured that out------then throw in the division according to the compass----SE and SW fronting the Potomac River, NE and NW aiming toward Maryland.

Then to make it really fun to drive----L'Enfant threw in a bunch of diagonal Streets often called Avenues intersecting at various points with the numbered streets. To connect all of this L'efant designed circles with inner and outer lanes that you can get spun off in the wrong direction.

Actually, once you get used to this------you will think L'Enfant was a genius.

In fact, I think he was. mj
