First of all I, if you're not allowed to explore everywhere the peak is falsely manufactured. Second of all you miss the huge point of switching to alternatives to lower our demand at the same time you attempt to increase supply to try to get the two to align. The goal is to become as independent as possible, hard to do with so much of the known (ANWR, OCS) reserves off limits.

Then there's the pesky point Hubbert et al miss entirely, coal and shale we have in such quantity we could last, even at todays level of consumption, for 400+ years - we only need the time to develop the method to extract it economically.
