Do you really believe that racism is dead in this country?
No, I think it is everywhere. But instead of being solely white-against-black racism, there is now at least as much black-against-white racism, and, it seems, black-against-black racism (ref. Jesse Jackson and Whoopie Goldberg). And there is certainly racism involving other races here, as well.
As to our elections, it is totally obvious that the REAL racisim is in blacks refusing to vote for McCain just because there is a black candidate running against him. This is the most disgusting and insidious, because I have no doubt many of these people don't even recognize the actions are racist. For example, in the video coming back from Kuwait today, CNN attempted to show huge crowds of soldiers welcoming Obama. A closer look allowed one to easily see they were all black.
Now, I don't believe these soldiers supporting Obama are INTENTIONALLY being racist -- anymore than Archie Bunker was intentionally racist. But it is what it is -- people discriminating against McCain because of the color of his skin.
This isn't new -- the Dems used racist advertising against Bush in prior elections.
So, yes, there is tons of racism in America. But the incidence of white-against-black racism is the lowest in the country's history, I believe. |
