Please do explain. Since you claim to have a BSEE you should know that is nonsense. Oops, mybad, it was just another one of your fundamental blunders, and it is wicked up me to point this out.

Did you ever take a basic electrical circuits class, or differential equations? Is the time constant of a circuit dependant on the size of the input function driving it? Think about any LRC circuit. Does the time constant depend on anything other than the LRC value, like how big a step function you are going to hit the circuit with? No it does not. So why does your feeble brain think the time constant associated with your car's thermal response is dependant on the amplitude of the input?
