Unfortunately I don't have any further information on the experiment to prove "frigoric" exists.

If you had two parabolic mirrors, and knew where the focus points are, there is little doubt in my mind the experiment will work. The focus point of a car headlight parabolic mirror will subtend a large angle of the thermometers surface area. If the thermometer bulb is insulated against convection and thermal conduction through air (apart from the area facing the mirror), I suspect you could get a large temperature shift downwards. It will appear to the thermometer it is surrounded by ice even though the ice is some distance away.

It sounds like a great experiment for high school students. The trouble is the students might be convinced that "frigoric" exists! You would need another experiment to prove the modern kinetic theory of heat, otherwise the lesson will not be useful. Can't think of a suitable follow up experiment at the moment.
