>>Whether my thoughts are ordered or not is a matter of perception and a rather rude response. Nevertheless, I'll respond without sarcasm or condescension.<<
Michael -
I appreciate the polite response, especially since I did not refer to your thoughts as unordered. I was referring to mine. See, the colon at the end of "Some unordered thoughts:" indicates that the phrase describes what follows, not what precedes it.
I had written the rest of my post, and in reading it over, I realized it wasn't very organized. Rather than editing it, I decided to just acknowledge that. Sorry.
By the way, you seem to be laboring under a misperception about what I and others think about the idea of sending billions of dollars to foreign dictators. Maybe you missed it when I said I agreed with you about that, and maybe you haven't noticed when thousands of statements to that effect have been made by environmentalists, liberals, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, etc.
We all agree it's a terrible idea that is leading our nation into financial ruin. Where we differ is on the solution. You seem to feel that the only way out of that mess is producing more oil domestically. A lot of other people, including me, think that reducing our consumption is a better approach, or at least a complimentary one.
We can do just as much to reduce our dependence on foreign oil by reducing our consumption of oil overall than we can by trying to produce more oil. There are side benefits to the conservation approach as well, including cleaner air, fewer greenhouse gas emissions, etc. Not to mention the fact that we have to get off oil eventually, anyway, since the world will run out of it.
