Tim, right now I'm feeling similar (not the same, but similar) to the way I felt 10 years ago. I was in grad school, trying to work on a paper at the kitchen table while following the market go down, down, down on a radio business channel. At the end of the day some friends called and asked how I was doing, I said "I still have my health."
The few stocks I owned, which included CPQ, got mega-wacked. What I did was _totally_ avoid looking at the business section of the paper for a good month (maybe more). CPQ (and the other stuff I had) came back. Had I gotten into the mind-set my friends who also invested did--they paniced with the panic and dumped their shares in everything --my financial situation would be a lot worse than it is.
Yes, this is a real mind-game today, played-up big time by the news media as they created news if there is none naturally occuring (earth quakes, wars, etc.). Just don't panic with the panic--have a stiff drink if you imbibe.
BYW, the main similarity I find between today and that rechid day 10 years ago is that both are/were crystle blue sky, lovely fall days with temperatures in the 50s. Where I am on the East Coast, its a beautiful day outside.
Lynn
P.S. Think I'll go fishing, not for stocks but for trout in the brook about 175' from my house. Better than booze! |
