VISA Selects Tandem CS150 Server for First SET 1.0 Transaction
CS150 Packaged Cluster Server Delivers High Availability Needed for Web-based Transactions
CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 1997-- Acknowledging two decades of experience in transaction processing, VISA selected Tandem, a Compaq company, to provide its CS150 server, as one of the platforms for the world's first SET Secure Electronic Transaction 1.0 transaction.
The SET payment gateway software used in the transaction will run on a Tandem CS150, a Windows NT Server-based system. Two other components of the SET transaction run on systems from Compaq Computer Corporation. The merchant software runs a Compaq Proliant 2500, and the consumer access software running the SET wallet runs on a Compaq Armada 7750 laptop.
''We wanted to make sure that our platform selection for the demo matched what makes sense in a real-world situation,'' said Day Jimenez, senior vice president, Emerging Technologies and Chip Support, VISA Latin America and Caribbean Region. ''Web-based transaction processing servers must run with almost no interruptions and must expand as the business grows. We went to Tandem because of its leadership in fault-tolerant and scalable systems.''
Tandem's CS150 is a low-cost, two-node packaged cluster that combines two independent Intel microprocessor-based servers in a single cabinet. Microsoft Cluster Server and other cluster management technologies provide failover from one node to the other to ensure high availability. For interprocessor communication, the CS150 utilizes ServerNet technology, the high-speed interconnect from Tandem that has become the industry standard for Windows NT Server-based clusters. ______ Ibexx |
