Bob, the underlying principle of democracy is that individuals are sovereign. That means they decide matters to do with their own lives. Right there in the beginning of the USA constitution and revolutionary beginnings was mention of freedom, inalienable etcc. That doesn't mean the Kremlin should impose and dispose.

The answer is that people decide for themselves and the FDA gives a stamp of approval. If somebody will only buy FDA products, then they get that guarantee too, which could include a double your money back guarantee since the FDA is so useful.

If people choose unapproved products, then the company would need to get them to sign a document accepting the stated risks and potentially fatal or injurious consequences. Any fraud would be resolved by suing the fraudulent company for their back teeth.

Hey presto, everyone would be happy; patients, company, FDA, medical guild and lawyers.

Freedom is a great idea.

Gung Ho,
Mqurice

PS: I'm glad you like my words of wisdom at Politics for Pros. As written in a motel reception area "We aim to please". As they had on a sign over the toilets "You aim too please".
