True, but you have missed the bigger picture. What's in it for us? We have spent close to $700B in cold hard cash in this war. For that amount we could have been oil independent 3 times over. The cost/benefit analysis on this war clearly proves that we should not be there. The costs far outweigh any benefit we are receiving. By being oil dependent, we are forced to remain engaged in a region that is hostile to us. The more we engage with our military, the more we are hated. We already send $1 trillion a year to the Middle East and other hostile foreign governments with our oil purchases, which goes to funding terrorism against us and building Wahabbi Madrasas all over the world.

You and the neocons need to wake up and realize that oil and war are inextricably linked. The BEST way to fight this war is not with our military. It's to cut the funding of our enemies off, by being oil independent and leading the rest of the world to oil independence as well. We can do that more quickly and more cheaply than fighting a 50-100 year war with Islamic terrorists. And if you think 50-100 years is exaggerating, ask the Israelis and Jews how long they have been fighting Islamic terrorism. Hell, ask McCain. He'll tell you that if we are to win that military engagement we'd need a 100 year presence. Believe me, we do not want to remain the target of those crazies and we aren't going to solve their problems anytime in our lifetimes. The cold hard fact is that we cannot afford this war. It has already destroyed our economy and it will bankrupt this country. If we continue down this path, just watch as our economy goes belly up and unemployed shoots past 10%. This is a disaster that we need to get out of.
