The Volt would be more likely to replace Priuses or other high mileage cars than it would be to replace the average car or a low mileage car.

Why?

The people who care about "being green", or reducing oil imports, or spending less at the pump, are more likely to buy high fuel efficiency gasoline powered cars compared to buying a typical car. Thats the same group that is more likely to buy an electric.

The type of people who want a big car, or a very powerful car, or an SUV, are the people who are least likely to buy a Volt.

"Close? Maybe, but it isn't exactly something you can count on."

You can't 'count on' anything in this world but it's very likely.

There isn't any solid reason to think that its very likely, at least not just from economies of scale.
