Just my opinion but I think a VP choice can hurt a candidate but can in no way help them. A VP can't work magic but he can be a good surrogate on the campaign trail, or an indifferent one; he can be a good fundraiser or not; he can have local appeal in a swing state or not. If the overall campaign is broken he can't fix it, but there are things he can do.
