Afghanistan is the only conflict that much of the liberaliteriate admits we should be involved in. Although Al Qaida aren't in Afghanistan anymore, we do have an interest in making sure the Taliban can't return to power. They'd bring Al Qaida back. I don't know the best way to accomplish that. Our success in quickly overthrowing the Taliban was accomplished mostly with SF and airpower assisting the Northern Allliance. As to future policy, I think I'd take Petraeus' advice.
