Karen - I don't think there's a solution to our high medical costs if we only look at the insurance side of the equation. The excess costs are spread throughout the medical system, because almost every single part of it is designed to generate a profit. Every paper towel, every syringe, every IV tube, and every drug has been produced, sold at wholesale, redistributed, and resold to the medical providers, with profit taken at every step. I think the only real solution is going to be some kind of socialized medical system, probably supplemented by private practitioners that people can go to if they wish to pay extra.
