While I understand what you are saying technically, I have to admit that it grates on me and I think I am being logical, but maybe not :).

Erectile dysfunction is caused by a multitude of conditions, some of which are a matter of personal choice (obesity, smoking, drinking), but I wonder how often these are addressed before prescribing viagra. ANd I will bravely ask why not being able to perform is considered a serious disability. Just as I am not sure infertility is either. They are unfortunate things, but is that the purpose of health insurance? Do we fix only those things that are truly about health, or do we include attempts to make everything perfect in our lives.

I am not really taking a stand- I don't know what I conclude about this-

As for birth control, repeated pregnancy can certainly create health problems, and unwanted pregnancies create a host of societal problems.

When I hit menopause, I was unable to take full strength hormone replacement, and we found that the most effective was the level found in regular birth control. It wasn't covered, despite the circumstances. It was about that time I saw all these smiling men on tv getting their viagra and thought - well, Damn- something wrong with this picture.
