No one wants war with Iran. We do want Iran to not have nuclear weapons. And even Obama said yesterday we can't allow them to get nuclear weapons. I know no liberal can imagine this but there may not be any peaceful way to keep Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. At any rate, the Iranian nuclear issue is a conflict not involving oil directly. Even if there were no oil in the entire ME, we wouldn't want a savage regime that hates us - as Iran's does - to have nuclear weapons.

No, and I'd like to comment here that its a shame liberals believe no one can disagree with them without having evil motives. But its true - read Sowell's Vision of the Annointed and you'll see liberals have been this way for a couple centuries now.
My bringing up the Israel-Palestine conflict and the Lebanese civil conflict is to show more evidence that not all conflict in the ME is rooted in oil.
As for the strategic importance of the Middle Eastern countries and the Persian Gulf, I think everyone knows why it has strategic importance: OIL! So you prove my point. If we weren't dependent on oil, that whole region would lose its strategic importance in a nanosecond and our problems with the region would disappear over night.
It doesn't matter if we weren't "dependent on oil". The rest of the world would be. Therefore the ME would be of great economic importance to the whole world, including us, since we are still part of the overall world economy. We don't have the option of living in a world in which oil isn't important, if not to us, to others.
That's too good for you though. You prefer a world where there is danger everywhere of our own making so that we can continue to be enslaved to a hostile region for their oil supplies.
