The following reasons
Shanghai will be on 45nm, going to be cheaper.
Shanghai is already in production.
Shanghai consume less power.
Indication from several Chinese sites it will run at 2.8Ghz or more.

Intel reaction. Nehalem(2.6GHz) at $286
Intel bring forward Nehalem launch to September even though Nehalem is not ready for launch.

Looks to me Shanghai will have performance similar or slightly lower than Nehalem(2.6GHz). This is equivalent to Core2 Quad @3.2Ghz. ( claim: Nehalem is 20 to 30% faster than current Quad).

Current Core2 Quad @3.2Ghz is selling for $999. Why does Intel want to sell Nehalem at $286 during launch. Unless Intel can switch more than 50% of their production to Nehalem otherwise it does not make business sense or Shanghai is going to be good.
