Some times idiocy and arrogance is not the realm of criminals only - Portugal, Ireland, Spain, Greece, Bulgaria, Italy etc. are in recession or on brink of recession and idiots are promoting more interest hikes - what is the point is beyond me.

Liebscher Says ECB Has Room to Raise Interest Rates (Update2)

By Simone Meier and Andreas Scholz

July 25 (Bloomberg) -- European Central Bank council member Klaus Liebscher said the bank has room to raise interest rates again even as economic growth falters.

``We haven't exhausted our room for maneuver,'' Liebscher, who also heads Austria's central bank, said in an interview in his office in Vienna yesterday. ``I'm not that surprised'' by the latest economic data. ``We expected a weaker second and maybe third quarter.''

Liebscher spoke after reports yesterday showed German business confidence this month dropped the most since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001 and European manufacturing and service industries contracted, increasing the risk of a recession in the 15-nation euro region.
