What will happen when the rest of the OCS and anwr is approved for drilling is the price of crude will drop. The important thing is to keep the petal to the metal while alternatives are developed to prevent going off the cliff later.

Which is one of the argument against drilling OCS... that and you have an appreciating asset why sell it? But the OCS is really a drop in the bucket compared to world production and won't appreciably effect price.

The low hanging fruit is US fleet efficiency. Hell we could get mostly off imported oil with IC engines as long as we kick the stupid one passenger SUV habit. The most precious commodity in the world, the lifeblood of our economy, and we're running errands at less than 20% of available efficiency. It's just stupid.
