I am getting the first analyst report summarized. I realized something that could be big.

Why would Nokia assign GSM, WCDMA and LTE essential patents to Qcom? Because Nokia is changing its business model.

Instead of trying to R&D the essentials of the underlying technology in vertical fashion as in the past, it will focus on the software interface with the customer and the services sides of the handset business. Nokia was probably shocked at the Apple iPhone, how Apple leapfrogged Nokia and everyone else.

This could be really big for Qcom. We have always thought it would be cheaper for Nokia to spend its R&D money elsewhere and let Qcom develop the underlying technologies. If so, it really does put Qcom in the driver's seat for the future technologies. And, it really does put the companies in a position to collaborate in the future.

I think this was the big breakthrough that the parties had.
