The problem is, as the gaffes pile up, each has less impact. People just start to think, "oh, that's just McBush, he gets confused sometimes". The trend is alarming, though...

The other problem is that most people don't pay attention. So, if McBush says that the surge happened before the Sunni awakening, I'll bet 7 out of 10 people think its true. They just don't pay that much attention to detail. So, McBush's 'misremembering' could result in people taking his revised version of history as gospel.
