Stockman, you are right that IDTI (Integrated Device Technology) is a lower risk way of playing the x86 clone game. Basically, IDT had excess FAB capacity, experience building complex microprocessors (mostly SPARC chips) on 0.35 um process and a good design team using the KISS principal. Their investment in the C6 will be successful if they capture 1% of the market.

While the risk is lower, its much less of a "pure play" in microprocessors. I believe AMD will be successful in the next six months:
1. The yield problem WILL be solved
2. Intel will probably have problems getting the 0.25 um version of Pentium II (Deschutes) to market by 2H. This is because they are, for the first time, using many of the complex production techniques that the K6 used (5 layers, etc.). The Tillamook is child's play by comparison.
3. 1&2 will result in a second "window of opportunity" in the 1st half of '98, during which time AMD will have chips as fast as the fastest Intel chips.

PS - I own both stocks.
