Exactly.

At the time, every computer center had an array of punched card support devices -- duplicators, sequencers, sorters, etc -- all electro-mechanical devices.

Of course, source could have been stored on the University's mainframe -- but you only had limited time and storage. There was a "scratch list" posted every Monday that would list every user file due to be scratched by a certain date.

Working with punched cards DID, however, develop my typing skills.
