<<Example: see how people react when we tell them what the US really is as opposed to waht they were lead to believe>>
oh, it is sunday, so i will bite and let's start something :0)
(i) it is relatively easy to rewrite american history, because much of its short and mostly sordid span is pure bad fiction wrapped in spin, served up piping hot, refried over and again;
(ii) now, given that the nation is no longer comprised of folks whose culture and motivation had anything remotely to do with the country's founding fathers, its history going forward is actually also quite easy to predict, meaning the way of all otherwise ordinary nations, rise and fall;
(iii) predictable not so much in the sense that blazenzimshortwick meant, as in the yahoo deal will get done at 35/share over an otherwise foolishly chosen weekend, but in the grand sweep of things that history is actually comprised of, like the energy motivating tidal waves, as opposed to how a particular twig manages at any given instant;
(iv) starting with the election that will, imo, be entirely meaningless in just about every meaningful sense, in that the lowest common denominator of the aggregate electorate mob must be satisfied, else another election will undo the previous election on a quite predicable cycle written into law;
(v) we cannot predict how and who will be elected, but we can predict why ... no, i do not mean what obama actually stands for or whether mccain will repent his war stand;
i mean the guy elected will be the better of the two candidates in acting;
(vi) the system has degenerated to the point where actual merit hardly matters if it is even known;
true issues of planetary concern and/or on neighborhood watch are relatively insignificant compared to whether one or the other goes to what church wearing which tie.
the system has in truth degenerated to where actors are elected.
(vii) each society has a de facto caste system, whether explicitly codified as in the case of india or not, and here in traditional hong kong, actor and actresses belong one grade above hooligans, about on par with prostitutes, probably one rank below soldiers, certainly quite a few ladder steps down from garbage collectors, street hawkers, and light years away from teachers.
(viii) in america, actors become mayors, governors and presidents.
btw, in all seriousness, i adore americans of all sorts, from woody allen to blazenzimshortwick, and even cb ilaine, or especially cb ilaine, depending on days of the week.
i actually make few to no distinctions based on nationalities.
another btw, a couple of days ago i hosted one of this thread to drinks at the club along the ocean cliff and then champaign + spanish tapas spread at murray house near my neighborhood, and that would make a few on si whom i had hosted for food.
when are you coming to hong kong?
my sunday sermon now done. thankfully, amen :0) |
