Almost redundant, but better.

What I object to is when Conservatives pick out a story like that, where clearly the police or some other governmental agency has done something that makes no sense, and that violates an individual's rights, and then uses it to extrapolate the idea that Liberals want this kind of thing to happen. As if somehow members of the Labour Party would think this was just a jim-dandy thing to fine someone for smoking in his own van.
