Presumably they refused to work without the attire, but I do not know for sure. If that were the case, then it would be deceptive to suggest as that statement did that McDonald's did not hire them because of what they wore to deliver their applications. The latter is wrong and probably illegal. Not hiring them because they would not perform the duties of the job, which involves wearing a uniform, is legal and appropriate. BTW, there are Muslim women working at the McDonald's a few blocks from me. I can tell from the head scarves worn with the uniform.
