This Atkins thing is kind of funny. Years back I did it to lose 50lb's with many people trying to convince me I'm going to die. But before starting I was having some fasting blood sugars of 115 or so. 3 over 120 and you are labeled as being diabetic which I then had. So I start reading up on diabetes and go to the governments web site and low and behold they are all but telling me I need to go on Atkins. Now when I was on the pure Atkins not only my blood sugar but my cholesterol numbers all came down a lot. So I can't help but feel that it is heart healthy.

Now the new South Beach I've heard looks more at glycemic load then just carbs and allows some carbs and fruits and perhaps might be more varied then Atkins for someone still wanting breads and such.

At any rate as my doctor said any diet that allowed me to lose 50 lbs and bring my 3 month glucose reading into normal range, where it still stays, without medication is just fine by him. Now like Lindy I'm thinking of trying to lose the last 50 so I can quit the BP meds. Since I'm on the lowest dose of a diuretic I would think that may be a goal that can be attained with a bit of work.
