The thing that is so unfortunate is that the people who believe that, or at least something very close to that, are in positions of great power within the Bush Administration and the Justice Department. They include the President himself, as well as former Attorney General Gonzales. Many members of Congress apparently agree, including John McCain. That simply isn't true. None of the named individuals you list, has said or directly supported (or clearly indirectly supported) the idea that "our government should be able to detain any person they want to detain, for any length of time, without having to show cause, without being subject to oversight". You might make some related, weaker, but still negative statement against them, but the actual statement you made is not true.
