No shelby, in mining bigger is better. And underground could not provide enough practical mine faces and draw points to get the volume that open pit can.

To underground mine it is necessary to infill the existing workings for roof support. Paste backfill or the plastic composites, first need to locate exactly from above, drill & pump fill.

And waiting for long lead items such as power substation parts, then yr or so for the decline.
Then months of eng work with sensors and test mining of minimum number of panels to prove support.

So not longer to build the mine at all.

So, news to me but not really surprising that open pit may well net out better.
As the N side silver keeps building, that tips the scales also.
Getting cash from silver production along with the Zinc, and the higher multiple that silver production would command is a big plus.

That rate of Zinc production would put them in the top 3 or 4 in the world IMO, and with the silver makes them less dependent on Zinc price alone.

The size would make them more attractive to users, and financing easier, not harder.
