Cuddy's the son of Dan Cuddy who ran First National Bank. He served in the legislature out of Anchorage back when, then ran against Ted in the mid-90's and lost. Pretty solid conservative, likeable enough guy.

This time around he hasn't generated much buzz because the conventional wisdom was that no-one could beat Uncle Ted. His main support as far as I know was from social conservatives, who never liked Ted's moderate position on abortion, and Republican reformers who want to throw the old guard out.

The only other candidate in the primary is some guy from Florida who nobody ever heard of (but plans to spend a lot of money in the race). On the Dem's side they have Mark Begich, mayor of Anchorage, but he's pretty far left and would need a huge miracle to win.
