A guy I know (Ken Schmeer I believe) argued up to the California Supreme court that an adverse opinion he could accept only if the court published the opinion, thus setting precedent. "If it's the law for me, it's the law for every one else too". He argued(in the press). This really pissed the court off. He was enjoined to keep quiet by a lower court but this gag was overturned by the higher court. He did not prevail. It is common, and rightly embarrassing that California courts don't publish many decisions presumably to keep things simple, aka, hiding the fact the law is a ass.
