Well, lets see. When the Republicans had total control, the deficit increased virtually every year. At an unprecedented rate. As soon as the Democrats took control of Congress, that trend started to reverse. Now, granted, they have blown it for 2009. But the Republicans are not really complaining about the programs except to carp over minor points. Which, given their history, should not be any surprise. They rarely see a spending bill they don't like.

So, they aren't solely responsible for the spending. But that are a major source of the problem.
