US domestic oil production PEAKED at the beginning of the 1970s... and has been falling ever since.

Today's level of domestic production matches what was produced back in 1948.



According to data from the Energy Information Administration for crude oil field production in the U.S., our current annual domestic production of about 1.873 billion barrels of crude oil (5.132 million barrels per day) is about exactly the same as oil production 60 years ago, back in the 1947-1949 period (see graph above).

As far as 'where most of the undiscovered technically recoverable resources' for domestic sources, the greatest bulk of it is in the Gulf of Mexico (read: off Florida... <g>) and along Alaska's Arctic coast and continental shelf.

Much of the the Gulf already allows for unlimited drilling.
