I see that you're an engineer. What line are you on. If you were the same in Oregon, I expect it is SP. Or, does SP go into AZ. I have a bit of railroading background. My father was a yard conductor for NYC, and I own a third of a small rr in northern NY State.
I find your thread quite interesting. However, you folks seem to be wrapped up entirely in belief. To me, from my thinking about it, belief occurs either when someone tells you something that you haven't experienced or when they create it themselves. What is your thinking on that?
Also, I seem to be running into the "Dissappearing Yankee Sindrome" regarding who is a Christian and is "genuine." As soon as something contriversial regarding someone who claims to be "born again," whatever that means, they are drummed out of the corps.
The Dissapearing Yankee, by the way, goes as follows:
When you are overseas, people from the US are called yankees.
But, when you get to the US, it is only those from the north who are yankees. When you get to the north, it is those who are from New England who are yankees. When you get to NE, it is only those who are from Vermont that are yankees. And, when you get to Vermont, yankees are only those who eat pie for breakfast!
So, what defines a "true believer" if it isn't one who says they are?
They seem to dissapear upon inspection.
BTW. Do you know of an IN site that discusses philosophy? Even tho this is the coffee shop, it seems a little esoteric for SI?

P.S. I just remembered a real winner. Fellow in town-- Coos Bay- opened up "Integrity Motors" He was a Christian and proceeded to join the biggest church in the area with his family. Held prayer meetings with his sales force every day. Gave special discounts to every church member of every church in the area. Had fish logos in his ads and on his licence plates-- along with bible verses in his ads.
Then proceeded to screw everyone who responded and they just kept coming like sheep. It finally all caught up with him and he lost his dealer's licence and skipped the country back to New Zealand or Austrailia or someplace like that. BTW, for anyone reading this Integrity Cars still exists in Coos Bay and is now run by honest people who are trying to live the old name down. ( They can't change it because they bot the corporation from the other guy's atty.) |
