Mine are pretty sensitive, but I'm not sure 5 psi would be picked up. I get the idea they are really look for disparity amongst the 4 tires -- so if one is significantly lower than the others you get the warning. I don't really know how they work though.

I have seen these sensors on rental cars. And I have seen the sensors light up on several cars (like 3). There is a lot of randomness to it. I would start the car, drive for few miles, the sensor comes on. (When I saw it the first time, I pulled over and looked at the tires). Then I would stop for a while, start the car later, and the sensor would not light. Later on, it might again...
