My whole problem with the argument is, that like most statistics cited by liberals, these "savings" are totally overblow. It is just absurd, that when these guys have a cause, they'll just make up statistics to accommodate their needs.
My favorite is when Carl Sagan was on Niteline during the Gulf War telling us how only a few burning oil wells in Kuwait could cause a nuclear winter. Of course, he couldn't have envisioned a scenario like the one that played out, but there was no nuclear winter. Life goes on.
And then, it was going to take five years to put out the burning wells. Wrong.
These exaggerations are part of the liberal playbook and have been there for years. Pick your statistic -- whether it is overstatement of the percentage of the population who are gay (an effort to make it more "normal" way back when), the Al Gore exaggerations of ecological disasters (which have become laughable), Sagan's remarks on Nightline, it is always the same -- massive overstatements to support the cause.
The problem, of course, is that it ultimately just destroys the credibility of the cause of the day.
btw - I got one of these micro notebook pcs with an Atom processor and SSD storage in it. It is amazing. Battery life close to 7 hours w/o bluetooth or wireless. And reasonably fast, too. I think if Intel built internal combustion engines, we might not have an energy crisis at all. |
