It is well known that US history has some nasty elements. The mistake is Obama is focusing on the past - What does this mean to someone whose family came from Italy in the 1890s and never owned slaves ? Do they have to pay reparations for what occurred in 1850 ? What does this mean to someone who is 1/16 American Indian and the rest is something else ? Do they send tax dollars to Washington, get back 1/16 minus a small carrying charge ? The future of most of the US (except for maybe Oregon and Idaho) is very mixed - sort of like Obama himself. How far back does he want to go ? To the War of the Roses ? He could be focusing on the future, or at least current problems. But if wants to "Blame America first", he will not get very far. Sort of like the Japanese whining over Hiroshima - maybe they should have thought about consequences before Manchuria, Nanking, Pearl Harbor, and the Bataan Death March.
