I know enough to not make firm statements about things I don't know all the details on. Not just the particular geology but there are considerations like how fast would the Interior Dept move to start leasing, what kinda lawsuits are environmental groups going to file, etc.

I will only say this - there are a bunch of existing platforms offshore CA. Given the state of extended reach drilling, any geological target w/i 6 miles of one of those platforms is reachable from existing platforms. If there are new leasable areas with promising reserves w/i 6 miles of an existing platform, production from such an area could begin within a year of a lease being won. Having said that, I have no idea what, if anything, is nearby all those existing platforms.

OCS will help our energy situation certainly - save out asses - you'll have define that a little better.
