Barry - Re: " I fear that both of these will be completely wasted in the market environment that will prevail for the next couple of weeks"

Picture Intel and the PC/Semiconductor industry three years ago.

Let me summarize the "conventional Wisdom""

1. Pemtium - Consumes WAY too much power
2. 60/66 MHz - no speed advantage over 100 MHz 486
3. AMD/IBM - Gonna Kill Intel with low cost chips/better "manufacturing" know-how (Am486 & IBM Blue Lightning)
4. Cyrix - also gonna Kill Intel
5. Texas Instruments - designing a family of four "Rivers" x86 chips - gonnal kill Intel
6.IBM/Apple - PowerPC - Game Over - Loser = Intel!
7. Compaq - Dumped Intel for AMD - Intel was too "pushy"
8. ACE - Advanced Computing Environment consortium -MIPS was the "thing" - Intel was history
9. SUN/HAL Computer/Cypress Semi - Sparc chips are gonna Kill Intel
10.(Fill in the blank)

Who would have believed in 1994 that Intel would have literally VANQUISHED the competition and that ALL Computer manufacturers with the exception of SUN would abandon their own CPU efforts and jump on board Intel's bandwagon for a chip that won't even be available for 12 to 18 months?

Now - think of the possibilites and probabilities for the nest three years - what will the Computing Environment look like then and who will be the "Engine" driving all the new developments - National Semicompactor?!
