It would make main street businesses more profitable, and I assume your presumption is that Walmart employees would earn more money (vs. stockholders).

You are naive if you think this wouldn't simply result in increased prices for consumers.

Walmart employees are unskilled laborers and the idea that these people would be earning $20/hour with benefits is anathema to those who believe in the American way of life. That is, you get paid for your own accomplishment.

We see what unions have done to the American auto industry. How long before Walmart is supplanted by non-union employers from overseas just the way Toyota brought down GM?

Unions served a purpose at one time. Today, at the top they are a quest for power and at the bottom they are a way to redistribute wealth to people who haven't earned it.
