For it's intended use, that isn't all that relevant. It just needs to be a better solution than batteries.

It is relevant if the energy requirement is not substantial.

If you have to put additional strain on the power grid during peak hours to make this process work, there may be little value in it.

Hey, I'm all for research into ways of using solar, don't get me wrong. It sure holds a lot of promise once suitable techniques can be developed which don't require massive amounts of energy.

But I can remember waking up years ago to bold headlines in the Dallas Times Herald that nuclear fusion would be solving all our energy problems by now. You know how that turned out.

A small fraction of these big announcements turn out to deliver what is promised. It would be great if this one does, but I won't be holding my breath.
