Once upon a time, "public service", meaning working for government, was a respectable occupation, looking after and developing public assets such as roads, spectrum, air, rivers, natural resources, etc, protecting the realm, imprisoning and executing criminals, enforcing contracts,

Now government is mostly made of governmentium.

That's an interesting scientific discovery.
